35 Local foodpreneurs were part of a Food Compliance training held at our HQ in Tuvu, Lautoka yesterday.
The workshop was attended by restaurant owners, small food canteen owners, home-based caterers and those thinking of starting new food businesses.
The morning training session was facilitated by Quality Control Officer, Shika Reddy, Sadhna Goundar and Ansoo Raj who discussed proper food handling from farm to table, causes of food poisoning and safe food hygienic practices.
The session was concluded by Mr. Rouhit Singh, Manager, Health Services at Lautoka City Council who discussed the importance of maintaining a hygienic environment for food preparation.
He stated that hygiene and sanitation are very vital to ensure that food is safe for human consumption. With the influx of food sellers post Covid, it is important to know about the risks associated with food and hence one should understand that the food preparation facilities are clean, there are adequate washing facilities, personal hygiene is maintained, the cooking and serving temperatures are maintained and waste is disposed of rightly.
This training is supported by USAID and is being implemented by the Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development.
